A View from Piedmont Park

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Every morning when I’m on 10th Street coming home from the gym I see the midtown Atlanta skyline and wish I had my camera. With the fall weather and clear skies, these last few days have been extra beautiful. So this morning I skipped the gym and hightailed it over to Piedmont park just before 7 o’clock. Unfortunately I’m no professional photographer and these pictures just don’t do the real thing justice.

No longer a Virgin ;)

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Ok so it’s not the first time I’ve written a blog. Therefore no longer a virgin. I hope y’all respect me in the morning.

Where did we leave off? Let’s see … oh I was going to tell the baby sister. Picture this … I’m in the car with my two sisters. I say to the 11 year old in the back seat, “what would you think if I told you I was gay?” And she continues to play with her phone!!!! Like she didn’t even hear me. I swear it’s genetic. We did end up having a conversation about it and it went really well. But damn.

While I was out of town somebody kicked in my front door and stole 2 checkbooks, some cash, my girlfriends wallet, assorted credit cards, a bag and a bible. Yes folks you read that right … I have a a bible and someone stole it.

Now, some folks would think it odd a) that a lesbian has a bible or b) that someone would steal a bible. Then there are some of you who think that both are, let’s just say out of the ordinary. To those of you who think it odd that a lesbian has a bible, I say this — the religious leaders of his day hated Jesus, too. All the man talked about was love and I refuse to leave him to the haters of this world. To those of you who think it’s odd that someone stole the bible … it was a really nice bible. :)

Blog Virgin

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Ok so I’ve been bugging my buddy Rhonda to write a blog. Her response was that she was too busy and that I should do it. Don’t know if y’all have heard or not but she’s working 18 hour days. (She still has time to run off to Europe with her wife and then go drinking with my girlfriend but whatever, I digress.) So this is my first blog. I’m a blog virgin. Whew! Been a long time since I could say that! Feels pretty good. Virgin. Virgin. Virgin. Though I did enjoy my college years…:)

Anyway, I’m here because the t-shirts make me laugh out loud. I mean “Camel Towing” that’s funny shit. All my straight friends buy shirts on here to give to their friends. I myself sent one to a straight friend of mine for Christmas. She opened it in front of her whole family. “Save a Tree Eat a Beaver,” a classic, but it gave them all something to talk about over the dressing. (For those of you not lucky enough to have been born below the “Sweet Tea Line,” down here in the South we have Dressing and it’s made with Cornbread, Sage, broth and motherly love. It’s comparable to Stuffing but it’s not sweet or made with nuts or berries. We have dressing at Thanksgiving and Christmas to go along with the turkey and ham. Just want y’all to keep up.)

So from what I hear, you just talk about your life in blogs. My girlfriend and I just got engaged to be married. Well, we did it over dressing at Christmas :) Then we bought a house this Spring. I just got new front loading washers and dryers today…I’ll let y’all know how they work out.

I told my family years ago about my sexual orientation. The thing is I have an 11 year old sister that doesn’t know. I haven’t lied about it but I haven’t said, “Hey this is my girlfriend” when I introduced her to my partners. And that’s the thing, I’ve had a few partners in her lifetime and she has met all of them. But now, things are different. I’m getting married and I want my family, all my family, to have the opportunity to come. So I have to tell her that I’m gay, I’m getting married, I want her to come, and I want her to stand in the wedding. It should happen over Memorial Day weekend. I’ll keep y’all posted.

PS I’ll be taking suggestions on the best way to do it.
